It’s now June 4th – and I am just getting a moment to post up my monthly expense report from APRIL! A little bit of life and work taking up my time, a dash of laziness, and mostly a heap of exhaustion. But for posterity – here it goes!
Like every month, this is only my spending and no one else in the household. Current target is under $2025* per month. (You may notice this is up $500 – we will get to that. )
Monthly Expense Report
|Housing||$1500||Our household payment has increased on our mortgage. With a 5/1 ARM, we are cruising to crush it before the interest crushes us!|
|Home||$560||Odd bits for detail work on our DIY flooring project. Can’t wait to be finished, but one is never really done.|
|Foods||$225||A few too many lunches out.|
|Utilities||$150||Water and sewer – quarterly.|
|Debt||$135||So close to the finish line!|
|Gifts||$100||A tiny something for the extra labor involved in our DIY project. THANKS!|
|Auto||$85||Gasoline and insurance|
|Pets||$70||Animal sustaining supplies|
|Person||$60||Emergency clothing purchase for meeting with the CEO|
|Medical||$5||A few Rx|
Back to the table formatted expenses until I get my system fully running on Ubuntu. I've got some ideas for new visualizations - just need time!
$1,500 ON HOUSING
With some money being freed up and acknowledgement that our 5/1 ARM is continually nearing its adjustable portion, we have decided to start taking out our mortgage principle. Even at this rate, there will be a hefty portion left once we reach the adjustable date – but at least we will be MUCH closer! (I expect this to go up another notch within the year.)
$560 HOME + $100 GIFTS
The work on the DIY flooring begins and makes lots of headway. Living in an older house is cheaper – until you start wanting updates and learning how old and poorly maintained said house is. 🙂
This floor actually looks great compared to the gross carpet and tiles that were in place. I have no regrets plunking down the coin or spending lots time working on this. (Writing this in June – the detail work continues!)
What I thought was a one-on-one with my CEO the following week, was actually a one-on-one that same day! And as I was leaving for work that morning I got the comment, “You’re going to work dressed like that.” I showed up in jeans and a sweatshirt. I arrived in my meeting with the CEO wearing a nice button-down, work appropriate shirt. I wouldn’t normally drop $60 on a shirt, but it had to be done. (Meeting went well!)
I didn’t get my donation in time for April! Will have to catch up in May.
EXACTLY 1% under my goal line!
Up 5.9% since March, and looking to be ahead of the game next month. Good chance I will be up 200% compared to December 2015 by the end of 2017. Big plans for a new Net Worth visualization – not sure I can pull it off without a lot of custom coding – or worse, drawing and editing in an image editor.
*House equity – despite the increased mortgage principal payment is and never has been part of my net worth calculation.
